The OAI protocol for metadata harvesting has enabled the creation of a new generation of information portals. Yet, these portals often struggle with inadequate or irregular metadata harvested from widely varying repositories. This one and a half day workshop will bring together digital library professionals to consider automated and semi-automated strategies for metadata enhancement and remediation scenarios involving the OAI protocol. Some of the scenarios being considered include normalization of date and format fields, and taxonomy generation / assignment (through both clustering and classification techniques). The workshop will result in an agenda for specific experiments to assess various scenarios collaboratively. The Overview link below provides more details on meeting activities and outcomes.
