Metadata Enhancement and OAI Workshop
    MEO Workshop
Held at   Emory University
 Robert W. Woodruff Library
 540 Asbury Circle
 Atlanta, GA
 30322-2870
July 24 - 25, 2006
The OAI protocol for metadata harvesting has enabled the creation of a new generation of information portals. Yet, these portals often struggle with inadequate or irregular metadata harvested from widely varying repositories. This one and a half day workshop will bring together digital library professionals to consider automated and semi-automated strategies for metadata enhancement and remediation scenarios involving the OAI protocol. Some of the scenarios being considered include normalization of date and format fields, and taxonomy generation / assignment (through both clustering and classification techniques). The workshop will result in an agenda for specific experiments to assess various scenarios collaboratively.
